With over 75 years of experience in providing heavy machinery to a diverse range of sectors in Italy, such as agriculture, construction, and earthmoving, Scai S.p.A. has an extensive machine fleet made up of several different brands of OEMs including Hitachi, Bell Equipment, Metso-Outotec, and Fuchs.
In an effort to use data to increase customer satisfaction, Antonio Bianco began searching for a fleet management solution that would allow his team to centralize machine data in one platform while also integrating with a new ERP system. The goal was to provide customers and employees with more information about their rental machines, while simplifying the rental process to increase efficiency.
From the early stages of their digital transformation, Scai recognized the importance of machine location in efficiently managing their growing fleet.
With 10 branches spread across Italy (with expansion plans to double over the next 5 years) and a mixed fleet of over 1000 rental machines, centralizing the location and data of all those machines was a huge pain point for their team. Trackunit Iris’ hardware agnostic solution allowed Bianco to bring together all their telematic equipped machines into one platform.
“Before using Trackunit Iris, we had to log into each brand’s individual portal,” says Bianco. “But now we can see all our machines in the same place through Iris”

This centralized approach has both simplified tracking and locating machines for Scai but has also empowered their team to provide quick responses to customer inquiries regarding equipment availability. Additionally, while equipment theft hasn’t been much of an issue for Scai, Bianco finds peace in knowing that they have the necessary tools for locating and recovering their machines.
While centralization of their fleet was imperative for Scai, so was integrating telematics data with their organizations new ERP system. To help find the right solution, Bianco sought out insights from OEM partners on which telematics providers had experience with API integration. “The only company that was really using this technology was Trackunit.”
Bianco stated that a recent changeover to a more customer-focused ERP system has emphasized the importance of integrating telematics data into a unified platform. Integrating Trackunit Iris with Scai’s new ERP system provided them with a comprehensive view of rental agreements, machine location data, and machine insights all in one place.
“For us it is very important because all data is available in the same place,” says the Product Support Engineer. “And soon more improvement will be available in API technology with Trackunit.”

This consolidation of data within a single system has proven crucial for their operations, as it not only enhances efficiency but also improves customer satisfaction.
As Scai’s rental fleet continues to expand, the company remains committed to enhancing customer satisfaction through machine telematics. As part of their evolution, Bianco is excited to delve further into machine insights that Trackunit telematics provide, including utilizing service maintenance capabilities.
