As a premier equipment provider across North America and the UK, Sunbelt Rentals faced the daunting task of maintaining optimal uptime across an expansive fleet with over 14,000 product types spread across more than 1,200 locations. Its commitment to providing the best possible customer experience required a full-fleet solution that could help improve operational efficiency and address equipment maintenance proactively, preventing unnecessary delays on customer projects.

Over the past 15 years, Sunbelt’s relationship with Trackunit has deepened, evolving from basic tracking needs to comprehensive utilization and maintenance insights that help to improve its customer relations.
“Through our partnership with Trackunit, we are enabling a better end-to-end experience for our customers through data,” says Sunbelt’s Jenna Reed. “That means making sure that we have equipment uptime, and we’re getting ahead of equipment ever going down.”
“Having robust equipment data from Trackunit Manager, which pulls in critical information from our IoT devices, is critical to [our] operations.”

Trackunit’s telematics solutions have helped Sunbelt revolutionize its fleet management capabilities. Trackunit Manager serves as the central platform for aggregating and analyzing data from IoT devices like Trackunit Raw and Spot. These technologies provide equipment vitals and utilization data, helping Sunbelt respond quickly and proactively.
“Specialty equipment is a large focus because it supports our emergency response teams and special events where we are providing energy.,” says Sunbelt’s Director of Connected Asset Product Management. “We need to know that we are supporting the grid and making sure those areas have power.”
“Having robust equipment data from Trackunit Manager, which pulls in critical information from our IoT devices, is critical to those operations,” adds Reed. “We need to be able to view them remotely [and] act accordingly and quickly.”
Trackunit’s data-driven approach to fleet management has helped the team at Sunbelt improve its customer service and provide proactive, rather than reactive, equipment maintenance. “We went from needing location tracking for our equipment to also needing utilization insights, and now we need even more data,” adds Reed. “With Trackunit enabling those, we’re able to best support our customers.”
“We use [Trackunit] data within our organization today to make sure we’re not only operating the machines very effectively with historical insights to look back and address potential behavioral changes, but also looking into the future of how we can change field operations in order to address the ESG.”
Brandon Parker, VP of Digital Product Management
Sunbelt Rentals is committed to sustainability, with an ambitious goal of having net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Sunbelt is exploring innovative ways to leverage technology to support its environmental goals as part of this initiative.
An exciting prospect is the integration of Trackunit’s Emissions Reporting tool into its operations. Emissions Reporting would help Sunbelt collect, track, and reduce emissions across its extensive fleet, aligning operational practices with sustainability targets.
Brandon Parker, VP of Digital Product Management, expanded on the significance of this strategic direction at Trackunit Next: “We’re using the data to address sustainability, largely focused on our customers, our people, and even our investors. We use the data within our organization today to make sure we’re not only operating the machines very effectively with historical insights to look back and address potential behavioral changes, but also looking into the future of how we can change field operations in order to address the ESG.”
