Trackunit’s newly established research team will help bridge the gap between technology and its application and uptake in construction to transform market economics.
“Trackunit Predict is a division for people who believe they can fly. A team of first movers researching to challenge industrial standards” – Per Stjernqvist.
Trackunit Predict is a team of highly skilled data scientists, analysts and software developers who are focused on inventing the future of telematics. Their output includes new products and solutions, new services, clever updates and smarter, more efficient hardware that will push the limits of what is possible in construction now and in the future.
The Predict team is led by Per Stjernqvist, VP Servitisation & Solutions at Trackunit. Formerly the Managing Director of Volvo Construction Equipment, Stjernqvist is one of the world’s most experienced men in the use of machine data for solutions and service development. Acutely aware of the problems facing the industry, he says: “According to McKinsey, the global construction sector is as digitized as hunting! It struggles with productivity, with large projects consistently facing long delays and significant over-runs. At the same time, it is challenged to be sustainably profitable. The market is ripe for disruption. Trackunit Predict is just the team to deliver technology to drive the economic transformation of construction.”
Part of the issue is that uptake of technology has been limited in the sector, and where it is deployed, much of the useful functionality is unleveraged. Mathias Frost, a data scientist at Trackunit says: “Technology such as telematics is not science fiction, it’s an embedded and well-established technology platform which is ubiquitous. Real steps forward can be made as telematics data is harvested and analytics applied. This can provenly reveal previously hidden opportunities to increase the uptime of machines, drive efficiency and improve the safety of operators.”
To support the effort and develop the conversation with equipment OEMS, rental companies and machine operators involved in the construction industry, Trackunit has today launched the Predict blog at trackunit.com/predict/blog/ and welcomes comment and input from all interested parties.
