For Daniel Thunberg, Head of the Imperto business unit at Irdeto, jobsite efficiency starts with removing the chaos of uncoordinated rentals.
“Our goal is to make job sites more efficient, safe, and productive,” says Thunberg. “The way most jobsites used to work was one general contractor, then a whole bunch of subcontractors. And each subcontractor would rent their own equipment.”
That fragmented approach led to redundancy, idle assets, and heavy transport requirements. “Some subcontractors might only be on site one or two days a week,” says Thunberg. “But they’d rent equipment that just sat there for the whole project.”
Irdeto’s Imperto equipment sharing platform enables on-site equipment pools that subcontractors draw from as needed, streamlining access and dramatically reducing unnecessary fleet presence and movement.
“You can have many companies use the same machine in a single day. You reduce the amount of equipment needed, and definitely reduce transportation in and out,” says Thunberg.
In heavily regulated urban zones, this model becomes even more powerful. “Today, in many cities in Europe, you can only transport heavy stuff at night,” he says. “So you can’t just call and get a machine two hours later, you’d have to wait.”

Before integrating with Trackunit, Imperto was functional but isolated.
“It was basically a standalone solution,” says Thunberg. “The data was exported to Excel, and someone had to trawl through it manually.”
“We don’t have to guess anymore, we know what’s being used, how, and by whom.”
With Trackunit’s integration, that’s changed. “Now, we can enrich the data from tracking devices and pair it with mobile phone usage and booking data. We can see run hours, who unlocked the machine, how many people used it during a booking.”
This creates powerful visibility into equipment usage, driving smarter fleet balancing, demand forecasting, and more responsive resource management.
Irdeto measures every project to track its true impact, and the numbers speak for themselves.
“On average, we cut transportation by 50 to 65%,” says Thunberg. “In most cases, we see equipment utilization above 70%. In some, it’s 100% or more, our record is 125%, with multiple bookings on the same machine in one day.”
The platform also contributes to sustainability. “You reduce CO₂ emissions two ways: fewer transport trips, and fewer machines on site overall,” says Thunberg.
With telematics and access control, Imperto opens the door to outcome-based business models.
“You can tie access to a user during a specific period and see what was achieved,” says Thunberg. “That becomes the basis for how you charge. It’s a totally new layer of flexibility and fairness.”
“If the data is available, we can turn this into output-based models, pay per lift, per hour, or per move.”
The possibilities are vast, but focus is key. “We’re only scratching the surface,” says Thunberg. “Our customers will help guide the roadmap, but combining machine data, booking data, and user data gives us a foundation for far more intelligent decisions.”
Today, much of the value created by telematics remains behind the scenes. Thunberg sees a future where more of that insight reaches the people who need it most, on site.
“There are data points that sit in the backend of Trackunit systems,” says Thunberg. “Right now, only the tracking managers see them. But these should be in the hands of the site managers, the ones making rental decisions.”
Whether it’s fuel level, battery charge, or machine availability, those small insights can eliminate major disruptions. “The sky’s the limit,” says Thunberg. “Especially when we work together to build it.”
RAKA is preparing to activate the RentalMan integration, allowing Trackunit data to flow directly into internal systems and reporting tools.
“Once that API is in place, it’ll really make sense,” Jackson says. “We’ll be able to run PM reports, track service intervals, and break things down by region.”
The goal is clear: give every technician the tools to succeed and give every customer a better experience. “We’ll know this machine had its 90-day inspection, its annual, its service. Everything’s up to date.”
