Go From Good to Excellent

As service manager or a service technician your job is to keep the fleet safe and ready for the next job - this is not a trivial task; it requires a special skill set. You must act fast when an issue appears and be able to plan ahead to service machines on time. No wonder good people for the service dept are hard to find.

Each year The Association of Equipment Management Professional (AEMP) presents its Technician of the Year Award to a skilled professional. This award “celebrates the dedication, hard work, and professionalism of the skilled technicians that keep both public and private fleets running.“ One qualification for the award is five years’ experience in the field, cementing the fact that you don’t become a great technician overnight. And, who would know more about that than AEMP?

Remote Diagnosis is a Game Changer

Even the best technician can’t prevent every machine from breaking down. But, a good one can significantly shorten the downtime if he has the right tools, if he can remotely diagnose the problem and bring the right spare parts. It’s even better if he can detect an incident before it happens.

10x Efficiency Increase – With the Same Staff

Service departments are cost centers. Optimizing workflow, increasing first-time fix-rates and the ability to predict possible breakdowns are differentiators for all contractors and rental companies. However, with the help from digitalization the same service technician can now overlook 10 times the number of machines than before.

What if the service department could keep an eye on machines that don’t have strong uptime track records or are due for service? Instead of guessing what happened when a machine is down, technicians could look at the CAN-data and know what happened – even without being in the field. That would be a true differentiator as every dollar saved is a dollar earned.

Technology is an Enabler for Excellence

McKinsey Global Institute recently published „Reinventing Construction: A Route to Higher Productivity“ and reports, „…advanced analytics enabled by the Internet of Things (IoT) to improve on-site monitoring of materials, labor, and equipment productivity; and digital collaboration and mobility tools (such as construction management apps loaded on mobile devices) to better track progress and collaborate in real time. On-site productivity can be increased by as much as 50 percent by implementing a cloud-based control tower that rapidly assembles accurate data in near real-time that is both backward-looking and predictive…“

McKinsey Global Institute in the „Reinventing Construction: A Route to Higher Productivity“ report

The report from McKinsey Global Institute clearly shows us that technology is an enabler for excellence, efficiency and increased revenue. A good technician can now become an excellent one. Maybe, with the right tools, your technician will be the next „Technician of the Year.”
